Day 5 - Malmo New Years Eve

Image
Today we traveled to Malmo for New Year's Eve. It didn't disappoint in any way. Even the pouring rain couldn't dampen the great evening festivities. When we arrived we checked in at the hotel and quickly got organized for a short city walking tour. It was really interesting to listen to our guide, Annette.  Our tour operator, Mike Moore from Moore Sports Tours put together an incredible evening. A four-course dinner, music, and a perfect view of the many city-wide fireworks from within our hotel. Our boys, parents, and coaches had a blast.  Tomorrow we get to sleep in a bit then we travel to Copenhagen for a day trip.  Another great day.

Day 4 - Oslo day trip.

After a comfortable three hour bus ride watching the countryside change in front of our eyes, we arrived in a snowy wonderland. Oslo had about ten centimeters of snow fall over the last couple of days making it even more special.  What a beautiful city. The architecture was spectacular and it's development along the waterfront is extraordinary.  Our visit to the Olympic ski jump site, Holmenkollen, was a highlight of the day as was the Oslo Opera House. Both are significant structures in own their unique way. After our guided tour we were given time to enjoy the downtown on our own before dinner at TGI Friday's.  Shopping, shopping, shopping, eating,  eating, eating! Another fantastic day in the books.  Sees i morgen!

Today, we had some free time to explore the city and enjoy its culture, food and architecture. With a bit of a sleep-in, we boarded the bus at 11:45 for a short trip to Liesberg Amusement Park. Filled with rides, Christmas markets and tasty food vendors, the group wandered around in the cool Swedish climate. A mini version, so they said, of the London Eye was a favourite of many.  After Liesberg, we were given the option to watch Finland vs Latvia or tour the city on our own. A good group went to the game, a few wandered around the port area, and a good group did some shopping. All in all, it was a great, less programmed day, The big excitement from today was the game between Canada and Sweden. The eleven thousand five hundred seat arena was sold out. The crowd was as loud as I have ever experienced at a sporting event, and the game didn't disappoint. Unfortunately, team Camada lost 2-0. Still, what a fantastic experience. We can't wait for the next game.  Tomorrow, we will tra
