Day 6 - Day trip to Copenhagen

Holy moly.... What a great day! 

Our group had a leisurely morning after a fun New Year's Eve arriving at breakfast anytime before noon. Another excellent spread was waiting for us which included surströmming, a lightly salted fermented Baltic sea herring, cheeses and meats, yogurt, and granola as well as a typical North American spread. Really delicious. 

We boarded the bus for a day trip to Copenhagen with our tour guides. Both guides shared fantastic information and stories about Malmo and Copenhagen. The boys, parents, and coaches learned quite a bit about both cities. 

The group had free time to explore Copenhagen for a couple of hours. Coach Vince and Coach Joe went to the famous Nyhvan Street. It was just as lovely as expected. 

On our way home, I asked the bus driver if he could take some of us to the Copenhagen Central train station. Twenty-five of us took the high-speed train back to Malmo. It was a must while in Europe. 

All in all, another amazing day. Tomorrow is a lighter day until our next hockey game at five PM. The boys are pumped.

Day 8 - 630 AM wake up!!

Today is a two-game hockey day. Just like a tournament back home. An early rise at 630 AM made for a long day when our second game was at 7 PM. Our first game against Helsingborg was our most exciting game so far. With the opposition up 7-3 in the third, Crescent dug deep and came back to tie the game 7-7. With strong goaltending and intense forechecking we managed to fend off a PP in the last minute as well as scoring a shortie.  Game two was a bit lopsided in our favor. 8 - 2 was the final with Crescent easing up on the gas a bit in the third. Malmo Redhawks were fantastic hosts finishing off the day with a traditional Swedish dinner of meatballs, potatoes, gravy, and the famous lingonberry sauce.  What an incredible experience for all the boys, parents, and coaches. Smiles all around, sincere handshakes, and genuine embracing of parents from the Swedish hockey teams made the experience a trip of a lifetime.

Crescent 23/24 U14 Sweden World Jrs. Hockey Trip Getting ready.

Hi everyone, this is our U14 World Jrs. Trip Blog.   We will fill it with pictures, comments from the players, parents and Coaches, and a running diary of our daily activities.  Here is the first post of many.  We had a plan. We asked the community if they wanted to travel to Sweden for the World Jr. tournament, and now we have Forty-five travellers heading over on December 26th. Our first get-together was about a year ago. We gathered again six months later for a wonderful pool party to discuss the trip details. Now, it's about a month away until we fly.  It's exciting. Stay tuned for many posts, pictures, and updates on our trip. Comments are always welcome.  Also, feel free to share the blog address with friends and family. Day 11 - The end!

And that's a wrap. Ten incredible days, memories forever, and the recovery begins.  3 AM departure from Gothenburg to the airport, where the excitement continued. Our boys, tired and ready to sleep, bumped into Team USA. It couldn't have been a better ending (other than Team Canada winning) than that. Pictures, autographs, sticks and handshakes were all part of the interactions. It was awesome.  It's 545AM local time, and we will board soon. See you soon in Toronto.  (Photo cred - Lauri Holomis)
